Solutions to test IDS/IPS systems based on reconfigurable platforms via the FASTER project

Chalkida, Greece, October 14, 2011 – Synelixis Solutions Ltd, a leading provider of networking, control and automation solutions, today announced that plans to test and validate the efficient of Intrusion Detection Systems/Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) implemented on reconfigurable FPGA chips via the FP7 ICT 287804 FASTER project.

Reconfigurable FPGA hardware is well established as being capable of delivering 10-100x greater performance per unit of space, power or cost than general purpose CPUs for a wide range of applications. FPGAs are silicon chips that can change their function, dynamically modifying the functionality of different parts of the chip during operation to morph between different circuits.

"The IDS/IPS market is growing significantly and we believe that a flexible, low-cost system based on reconfigurable hardware can meet the market demands much more effectively than traditional processor-based systems,” said Aikaterini Sideri, Synelixis CEO. "The technology arising from the FASTER project has the potential to add a new dimension to our capabilities and further boost our advantage on the field."
